Laundry

Almost every large hotel has in-house laundry facility. Laundry contributes around 1 to 2 % to the total hotel (65% of average occupancy in a year) financial turnover.
Laundry operation – facts and figures

  • It consumes around 2 to 5 % of the total hotel electricity. Out of which, washing accounts approximately 35 % and drying & finishing accounts for 65%.
  • The Repair and Maintenance expenditure of laundry equipment’s is around 15 to 20 % of the total laundry earnings
  • The expenditure on chemical usage for laundry is around 15 to 30% of the total laundry earnings

Environmental Impacts

Laundry operation in a hotel consumes enormous amount of resource (both hot and cold water, electricity, steam, chemicals) there by generating a large amount of wastewater (having phosphates and detergents). Chemicals used for dry cleaning are hazardous in nature and require safety precautions for handling. Some of the adverse environmental impacts caused by the laundry operation are mentioned below
