Boiler Plant
The boiler plant shall be designed to produce steam
at a pressure consistent with the results of the economic
analysis. Where local codes covering high pressure
boilers are restrictive concerning operating personnel,
etc., consideration shall be given to the use of separate
high pressure boilers for the Kitchen and/or Laundry
steam requirement and low pressure steam or hot water
boilers for the remaining requirements.
All gas and oil fired boilers shall have a minimum
combustion efficiency as listed in relevant ASHRAE
standard.
Boilers shall be constructed in accordance with
ASME codes.
Type of fuel shall be dependent upon cost and availability.
The use of dual fuel burners is mandatory where gas
is available.
Where fuel oil is selected as a fuel source, the
storage facility shall have a minimum two weeks supply.
The fuel oil tanks shall be constructed of steel
in accordance with UST requirements and all required
openings. A gasketed manhole with ladder to bottom
of tank shall be provided. A minimum of two (2) tanks
shall be provided.
Underground tanks shall be installed at least three
feet below grade and secured to a reinforced concrete
slab. Where local codes permit, or where soil condition
requires special consideration, fibreglass tanks may
be used in lieu of steel. Provisions shall be made
to avoid fuel oil leakage or spillage from the underground
fuel tanks as specified in standards for UST’s.
The de-aerator, for a high pressure boiler plant,
shall be an automatically controlled packaged type,
designed to reduce the oxygen content in the effluent
to not more than 0.005cc/litre. The unit shall include
transfer pumps and one boiler feed pump per boiler.
A stand by pump shall also be supplied.
Boiler blowdown equipment shall include a steam
separator connected to the tank. A thermostatically
controlled cold water supply shall be provided to
cool the condensate before dumping to the drainage
system. Boilers with continuous blow down shall have
a heat recovery system to preheat boiler make up water.
The fuel oil pump shall be a duplex type with all
required shut off water valves and relief valves.
Duplex basket strainers, suction and discharge, shall
be included.
Heat recovery from steam and condensate systems
shall be installed whenever practical.
Anti pollution devices and alarms shall be incorporated,
e.g. smoke intensity indicators, recorders, etc. |
