Public Spaces
In areas where freezing may be a problem, fan coil
units shall have a minimum space temperature control
point.
Public Space air conditioning shall be on a separate
and independent circuit from Guest Rooms. The design
shall allow individual areas to be heated or cooled
as required; therefore, consideration shall be given
to the use of separate air handling units for similar
spaces or subdivision thereof.
Public Spaces heating and cooling units shall be
central station, packaged type, air handling units,
which have chilled water for cooling and hot water
or steam coils for heating. Control valves shall be
two or three way modulating type.
The AHUs for public spaces shall be installed in
a machine room. Ceiling mounted units are not preferable.
If units are to be ceiling mounted provide fixed access
ladders, catwalks, lighting and sufficient head room
and space for servicing.
Reheat systems may NOT be used unless prior approval
is obtained from Sheraton.
Low velocity distribution system shall be used wherever
appropriate. High velocity distribution system is
applicable only for high ceiling areas.
Tamper proof space thermostats shall be located
to sense average room temperature at a height of 1500mm
above the finished floor.
Ceiling diffusers shall be used for all air distribution
systems. Perforated ceilings (plenum type) are not
permitted. Air return systems shall be ducted. Plenum
type return systems are not permitted.
The amount of outside air introduced into the conditioned
spaces for ventilation shall be no less than that
required by local codes, or that indicated below.
Manual controls shall be provided to allow full air
recirculation for preheating or precooling of spaces
and adjustment of the fresh air damper.
At least one thermostat shall be provided for each
separate system and zone.
Each zone shall be provided with means of shutting
off or reducing the energy used during periods of
no use or alternate uses.
For areas such as bars with high levels of smoke,
an electronic smoke filtration system must be installed.
Reheat systems serving multiple zones, other than
those employing variable air volume for temperature
control, shall be provided with automatic controls
that shall reset the system cold air supply to the
highest temperature that will satisfy the zone requiring
the greatest cooling.
Control systems which measure CO2 levels may be
considered as an energy saving device for large public
area spaces with varying population densities. These
devices control the outside air ventilation rates.
