Chillers
At least two (2) chillers shall be provided, each
capable of carrying more than 2/3 of the total load.
Stand-by capacity shall also be chosen for water circulating
pumps on the same basis as chillers. An alternative
configuration recommended is a three chiller system
with each chiller sized at 50% of the total load.
Selection for type of refrigerating equipment to
be used shall be based on the following:
Partial load operating characteristics -vs- building
load profile.
Availability, reliability of supply and cost of
water.
Chemical and physical properties of available water.
Availability, quality and cost of electrical energy
supply.
Availability and cost of hotel produced steam.
Availability of skilled maintenance help.
Type of equipment with which local maintenance help
will be familiar.
Availability of manufacturer's local service organisation.
Availability of replacement parts.
The refrigerant used shall be friendly to the environment
and will be concurrent with the latest worldwide recommendation
for ozone protection.
Heat reclaim systems.
Where electric drive refrigerating equipment is
selected, an evaluation shall be made to determine
the most energy efficient machine. This machine shall
become the basis for design. The evaluation shall
include the KW/ton over the full operating range with
the actual condenser water temperature.
All Kitchen refrigeration equipment, including the
ice making machines located in Kitchens and pantries,
shall be of the water cooled condenser type. This
condenser water circuit shall be connected to the
cooling tower water and provided with its own independent
dual pumping system. It shall be wired to the stand
by power system if the refrigeration equipment is
also connected. A separate cooling tower shall be
required for systems operating in freezing climate.
Air cooled refrigeration is also acceptable.
Independent packaged air conditioning units shall
be provided to computer room and PABX room to ensure
acceptable operating temperature throughout the year.
These systems are to be connected to the emergency
electrical supply.
