2005
GUESTS were evacuated from a luxury four star hotel as fire
ripped through its leisure complex roof yesterday. Up
to 60 firemen fought the blaze at the De Vere Carden Park
Hotel, near Broxton, about 10 miles from Wrexham.
Guests were evacuated around breakfast time as fire damaged
about 30sq metres of roof above the leisure complex.
The blaze started at the 192-bedroom hotel and conference
centre at about 9.30am. Firemen were still damping down
at 1pm.
About 120 guests were staying over-night, although not
all would have been in the hotel at 9.30am when the alarm
was raised.
Cheshire fire service say eight fire appliances were sent
to the scene along with two from North Wales and one from
North Shropshire.
All guests were accounted for and nobody was injured.
Dave Langer, assistant divisional officer who acted as
command support officer said: "The roof was well alight
when the crews got there but they did an excellent job of
stopping it spreading and minimised the damage to the hotel.
