WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C.– Four people are
unaccounted for after a fire swept through the Lakeview
Hotel in Williams Lake early Sunday morning.
Some of the hotel guests made desperate escapes as the fire
ripped through the wooden frame building, fire Chief Dale
Moon said.
"There was one lady that jumped from a third floor
room. She has multiple fractures apparently," Moon
said.
Although Moon said there were two deaths and three people
missing, the coroner later corrected that statement, saying
no bodies had been recovered and probably won't be until
Monday.
Firefighters did manage to rescue a number of people, including
an unconscious woman in a room on the third floor.
Betty Pickard, a local photographer, said the building
was consumed by fire within minutes of the alarm being raised.
"When I got there there was smoke billowing everywhere,
flames shooting out the windows, out front," she said.
Fire officials have not determined the cause of the fire.
The hotel was renovated recently by new management
