12. High Buildings
12.1 Design Criteria
- Sprinkler system for high buildings shall be hydraulically
designed conforming to the requirements of this standard.
- Sprinklers on each floor shall be supplied from separate
connections from risers, as stipulated in (c).
- Each connection from a riser shall be provided with
a check valve, an indicating control valve, and a water
flow detecting device with a time delay feature.
- Listed pressure reducing valves shall be provided to
limit the pressure to the sprinklers on any floor to 860
kPa. The pressure on the inlet side (riser side) of the
pressure reducing valves shall not exceed 1200 kPa (See
Appendix A).
- Sprinkler systems at or below grade or in mercantile
malls shall be supplied directly from the municipal water
supply independently from sprinkler system serving that
part of the building above grade.
- In buildings over 85 m in height, sprinkler systems
shall be zoned into approximately equal zones such that
no individual zone exceeds 85 m in height.
