13. Inspection, Testing and Maintenance
13.1 General
- The inspection, testing and maintenance of sprinkler
systems shall be in accordance with the appropriate sections
of the NFC.
- The inspection, testing and maintenance of sprinkler
system shall be the responsibility of the custodian department
and agency responsible for the administration of the property,
except as stipulated in (c).
- In the case of leased property, the tenant department
and agency shall ensure that the inspection, testing and
maintenance of sprinkler systems is carried out in accordance
with the requirements of this standard.
- The inspection, testing and maintenance of sprinkler
system shall be carried out either by qualified staff
or by means of a service contract with the manufacturer
or a qualified contractor.
- Immediate action shall be taken to have all faults
noted during the inspection, testing and maintenance procedures
corrected with the minimum possible delay.
- A record of all inspection, testing and maintenance
procedures shall be retained during the required time
interval between the inspections, maintenance procedures
or tests, or for least 2 years, whichever is greater.
13.2 Impairment and Interruption
- Sprinkler systems and water supplies shall not be shut
down, disconnected or otherwise impaired without giving
prior notification to the administrative official.
- Should the sprinkler system shut-off period exceed
24 h, the FC shall be notified.
13.3 Pressure Tanks
- Pressure tanks shall be examined as often as required
by the local provincial pressure vessel authority, but
at least every 2 years for sediment accumulations and
for corrosion. Corroded iron or steel work shall be scraped
and repainted as necessary. Accumulations of sediment
shall be removed.
- Relief valves on the air and water supply lines shall
be checked weekly.
