9.1 Electrical supervision

  1. When a building is provided with a fire alarm system, the sprinkler system shall be electrically supervised by the fire alarm system in accordance with Treasury Board, Personnel Management Manual - Occupational Safety and Health, Chapter 3-4, "Standard for Fire Alarm System".

  3. When a building is not provided with a fire alarm system, a separate control panel shall be provided for the sprinkler system at an approved location within the building which would be under continuous surveillance when the building is occupied. The power supply for the control panel shall be taken directly from a separate circuit on the load side of the main service panel after any transformation.

  5. Sprinkler systems shall be equipped with water flow detecting devices so that each device serves an area on each storey that does not exceed the system area limits as specified in NFPA 13, "Standard for Installation of Sprinkler Systems" (See Appendix).

  7. The activation of each water flow detecting device as described in (c) shall be indicated separately on the fire alarm system annunciator.

  9. The following equipment, devices and conditions for sprinkler systems shall be individually supervised and annunciated (See Appendix A): 
    1. water flow, 
    2. valves controlling water supplies, 
    3. air pressure, 
    4. water pressure, 
    5. water level in gravity tanks and pressure tanks, 
    6. air pressure in pressure tanks, 
    7. water temperature in exposed gravity tanks, 
    8. air temperature in any dry-pipe valve enclosure, 
    9. operation of automatic fire and booster pumps, 
    10. power and fuel supplies to fire and booster pumps, 
    11. supervisory service circuits and transmitters, and 
    12. other devices and equipment which may affect the operation. 

     
  10. The trouble signal for the electrical supervision of a sprinkler system shall be of the lock-on or latching type.

  12. Except for wet pit locations, plug type supervisory devices shall not be used for the supervision of valves.
