FORT WORTH -- Firefighters battled an early-morning
fire at the Days Inn on South University that forced
the evacuation of about 27 guests, a fire official
said Friday.
The fire was reported at about midnight at the hotel
in the 1500 block of South University Drive, fire
department officials said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze that was caused
by an electrical short in a motor in the hotel's attic,
Battalion Chief Donald Clark said.
The fire was brought under control around 2 a.m.
Three units in the hotel had extensive smoke damage,
but smoke had entered numerous other units in the
complex.
Damage was estimated to be $33,000, Clark said.
A spokeswoman for the hotel said that hotel staff
found alternative lodging for displaced customers
at other area hotels on the west side of Fort Worth.
