Fire Damages
King George Hotel
October 23, 2007 - 8:48pm
Saskatoon fire crews spent about four hours at the
site of the old King George Hotel downtown.
Battalion Chief Jim Lindsay says they were called
about 4 Tuesday afternoon to a fire reported in the
attic area of the historic hotel at 23rd Street and
2nd Avenue. There's no word how much damage was caused,
or how the fire started. Traffic had to be rerouted
while firefighters battled the blaze.
The building is being converted to an office-retail-condo

Fire at historic
hotel
St. Petersburg, Florida- The fire started just after
8 PM at the Kelly Hotel. Employee Catherine Fowler
says it startled guests, "They were going down
the hallway banging on the doors and they said we
had to evacuate because there was a fire on the fifth
floor.
But according to St. Pete Fire Rescue Spokesperson
Rick Feinberg, it was quickly put out, "The sprinkler
system had already extinguished the fire, it appears
at this point we have a mattress fire."
Hotel owner Danny O'Brien credits the historic hotel.
It was built as a fire proof building back in 1925,
"If any of my buildings could catch on fire this
one could take it. So I was relieved when I saw the
actual damage was minimal.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused
the fire. They're also looking for the man who was
staying in the room where it started. Three rooms
were damaged. Fire fighters say no one was injured. |
