Fire forces Holiday Inn evacuation

The fire started around 8:30 Sunday night. It may have started inside a heating duct.

Dozens of hotel guests and employees moved to the Holiday Inn Express next door while crews worked to contain the fire.

No one was hurt and the fire was out in less than an hour.

An early morning fire Monday at the Econo Lodge on U.S. 431 South in Boaz led to the closing of the hotel for numerous safety violations.

Boaz fire Chief Olen Morrison said he believes the fire is a case of arson.

The fire was contained to a vacant room, No. 109, in the motel and quickly put out with no damage to other rooms or injuries to any of the six occupants in the hotel at the time of the fire, Morrison said.

Gardaí are not treating a fire that destroyed a hotel in Roscommon town as suspicious. Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the Royal Hotel just before 9am this morning.

A neighbour raised the alarm when they saw smoke coming from the building.

AdvertisementUp to ten people were in the hotel at the time.

The building and the surrounding premises were evacuated.

The fire started in the ballroom of the hotel but within minutes the whole building was engulfed in flames.

More than 50 firefighters from five units of the Roscommon and Leitrim Fire Brigade tackled the blaze.

It took a number of hours to bring the fire under control.

During the incident, the area around the hotel was sealed off and the main street was closed to traffic.

No one was injured, but the blaze devastated the hotel run by a well-known local family.

BRANDON, Fla. (AP) - Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews are investigating after a hotel lobby fire forced guests to evacuate from an Embassy Suites.

Authorities believe a potted plant caught fire this morning, but aren't sure how. They arrived at the scene around 4:30 a.m. Hotel guests were sent across the street to another hotel, but are expected to return later today.
