Sprinklers Save German Clothing
Store
07/12/05
The Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports that on Saturday, 3rd
December fire broke out at about 20:35 in the Hirmer mens'
clothing store on the Kaufingerstrasse in Munich. The fire
started on the second storey of the six storey store, after
it had closed.
The heat from the fire operated the sprinkler system, which
knocked down the fire so that the fire brigade only had
a few minutes work to complete extinguishment.
Frank Troch, the Managing Director of the store, said in
a press conference, "It has been proven that our store
is well-equipped against such incidents." He went on
to say that despite smoke damage to some clothing the shop
was open again the next day.
