Fire investigators are trying to determine exactly what
caused the blaze which destroyed part of a Sugar Land business
Monday morning.
.
Flames engulfed the building before emergency
crews arrived at West Belfort and Ripplewave. Employees
at Welker Engineering evacuated the building before fire
consumed it. Workers say the fire grew so quickly all they
could do was get out of the way.
Company officials say some of their maintenance workers
accidentally started the big fire when they set some insulation
ablaze. No one was injured in the fire.
A shelter in place was issued for several hours to protect
nearby residents and elementary school students from the
thick smoke.
